Kitchen remodels can feel overwhelming, so where do you start? At TD Home Renovations, we begin by helping you think about how you wish to live, work, and entertain in your new kitchen. To do this, you must ask yourself some important questions about how you need your kitchen to function.
Below I’ve listed eleven that are included on the Priorities & Design Preferences Questionnaire, which we walk through with every client when kicking off the planning stage of their renovation. Your answers will be beneficial to you and any designers or builders you work with in the future.
What do you like about your current kitchen?
What do you dislike about your current kitchen?
Do you use your kitchen primarily for cooking, as a gathering place, or both?
Are you a baker or have lots of small appliances that require a fair amount of counter space?
How does the primary cook prefer to work? (e.g., alone, one helper, multiple helpers, etc.)
How do you most commonly shop for food & groceries? (e.g. for the week, for each meal, buy in bulk and freeze, buy non-perishable items in bulk, etc.)
What is your primary design style? (e.g., Classic, Contemporary, Cottage, Craftsman, Eclectic, Farmhouse, Modern, Swedish, Traditional)
Do you entertain? How often? Do you prepare the meals yourself or have them catered?
Does your family typically eat together, or are meals scattered amongst family members coming home at different times?
What are your must-haves? Nice-to-haves?
Have you made an inventory of the kitchen items you need to store to determine efficient placement and adequate storage space?
If you are wanting to explore remodeling your kitchen deeper or if you are looking for help in developing your complete list of Priorities & Design Preferences, I am happy to be of help in any way I can.
